Conversations at the House of AnnettaI will be performing and showcasing my work from the residency at the ‘House of Annetta’ at 25 Princelet Street EC1 6QH (4 min walk from the Old Spitalfields Market, Shoreditch High Street nearest Overground Aldgate East).
I have been working on peeling back the layers of conversations hidden in the walls of this house. Annetta Pedretti, was a cybernetic linguist who sadly died in 2018, leaving her house to the Community.

Art Lab is a peer group for artists and art practitioners to discuss their work, concurrent ideas and critical thinking based in Halifax since January 2019. During Covid restrictions, we moved online like lots of others and expanded to an international membership.
This first Art Lab exhibition at Dean Clough marks a return back to the physical space and mirrors Art Lab’s event practice of randomly pairing two artists together to explore commonalities and collaborative methods. During 2022, each artist pair, who may never have met or worked together before, embarked on an experimental journey to create, select or co-produce work in whichever way they chose.

My Collaboration with Mike Clement |
|
I collaborated with a man called Mike Clement and together we worked on three books and a harlequinade (known also as a metamorphosis, flap-book or turn-up book) based on commonality. We took a female member from our families and put a little bit of their lives into a book. We discussed our shared stories as we are both from working class backgrounds and we wanted to find a way to celebrate working class women in the last century as so little is mentioned about how tough their lives were. We also decided to frame fresh interpretations of a tarot card each. Mike developed the Magician and I developed the Fool (image below). |
|
The three other books that we produced are one about Mythical Animals, the second is Still Lives and the third Portraits. All of our pieces are for sale. |
