November 2022

November Newsletter from Artist Michelle Baharier

I do hope all of my wonderful friends, followers and readers are well and able to enjoy the amazing sunshine we are having. In the interim here’s my news and events!

What a wonderful month October was, I was in The Southwark News - the paper and on-line copies, both featured my work at the Paxton Centre, 52 Anerley Hill, London SE19 2AE, an exhibition I co-curated for South London Women artists,(SLAW) of which I am the acting chair.

A big thank you to all who came to Off the Cuff on 24 September 2022 and helped in raising the £520 for local food banks in Southwark and Lambeth, with the Cost of Living collective. The event was very kindly supported by the Mayor of Lambeth who opened the Cost of Living concert.

In this photo from the left are members of SLAW - Eleanor, Maria, Me, behind me Veena, and the Mayor of Lambeth Cllr Pauline George, Yoke, Sonia and Ekaterina. I am showing again at Paxton opening on 2nd December, so please put the date in your diary, come along and meet the artists who will be showing with me. We are offering gifts and the works will all be under £200.00 - similar to the Artist Support Pledge.

This month I am in a few group shows, the first is ‘These Momentous Times’ which opens on Thursday 10th November 2022 till 12th January 2023 and will be presented at The Bookery Gallerie 20 Church Street London NW8 8EP. https://bookerygallerie.com/

(Picture here is called ‘We are all Royal’ size 51 x 41 cm )

The title echoes a global reflection of the past three and a half years. A chance for each artist to correlate their thoughts on these times and to assess what it has meant to them as an artist connecting with viewers take on their own journey and reflections. We have been through Covid to the end of the Elizabethan times to a new dawn, reset and new beginnings.

I look forwards to hearing your views on my pieces in the show.

The opening on Thursday 10th November 2022, 6.30pm-10pm will celebrate the exhibition of 42 artists from far and wide. The artworks will be on show between 11th November - 12th January 2023.The evening will bring performance and storytelling to the gallery to accompany the visceral and immersive experience of the exhibition and we welcome you all to attend the space. The evening will be filled with lively musical performances by: Merry McCloud, Holly Penfield, Russell C Brennan, La Charawilla and Yellow Violin Man. Refreshments will be provided.

If you are looking for some unusual presents then look no further! I have the perfect gifts. I decided to turn my painting ‘one of those days’ into an Apron: And doesn’t it look just groovy as modelled here by Amos, my partner, who some of you will know. They are print on demand and take a week to make (sadly the printers are putting the price up). I currently have five in stock so grab one at £29.99 while you can, postage& packing £4.50 or pick up from me, I am in South-East London. They are one size cotton washable at a low temperature.

If this one does not get you, then my Monet one will, they are the perfect gift – the green one is a photo I took at Kew gardens, which is such a blissful place. Take your pick if you send in your order before I sell out of the stock I have you can have them at £29.99.

If you like my tea towels the same applies – Here is the Heygate Estate Elephant and Castle (no longer there) as a tea-towel at £19.99 including Post and packing in UK. Or pick up from me in person. I also print this onto canvas, prices depend on size, DM me if interested.

A selection of my paintings are available as prints – please enquire. I now have my Cat prints on the menu- I know how many of you who came to my show in May fell in Love with my Cat Biggie as seen here – the painting makes me think of Francis Bacon paintings- a painter I love and I know from feedback many of you adored this painting and wanted a copy. My cat Biggie is sixteen and as you can see from her eyes alert and curious, she’s a wonderful companion and I hope her personality comes through, the painting is 80 x 60 cm, prints can be any size. Prices of prints start at £40 please DM me for details.

As with the Heygate Estate I can get them printed on canvas - either framed or unframed via print on demand. Cost will depend on size.

If you would like to privately view any of my work or if you want to enquire about commissions and workshop dates - please DM if you want to know more. Many thanks and welcome to the colours of Autumn and the rusty glow of the leaves as they fall off and let the trees rest over winter’s cold and dark months.
